Russian drone strikes pummel Kyiv logistics hubs; one killed, warehouses and depot destroyed
Russia launched 140 drones at Kyiv on 27-28 August, destroying warehouses of Comfy, Aurora, and Nova Poshta. One person was killed and two injured. The strikes target civilian logistics infrastructure, with repeat attacks on emergency responders.
Russia has intensified its aerial campaign against Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, targeting logistics and distribution centres in and around Kyiv over 27–28 August. In two days of concentrated drone attacks, at least one person was killed, two were injured, and multiple warehouses — including those of major retailers Comfy, Aurora and the postal operator Nova Poshta — were damaged or destroyed.
A Ukrainian Air Force statement reported that on 27 August alone, Russia launched approximately 140 attack drones, more than 100 of them jet-powered, with the majority directed at the capital. Air defences shot down or jammed about 120 of the drones, but debris fell across several districts Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
In Kyiv’s Holosiivskyi district, debris ignited a car, which was extinguished, and in the Pecherskyi district, a sport facility was damaged. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed that an enemy UAV had landed in Holosiivskyi, setting a car on fire, and that debris had also landed in a non-residential area in Pecherskyi Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
The attacks deliberately struck civilian distribution networks. On the morning of 27 August, a Russian strike damaged the distribution centre of electronics retailer Comfy in Kyiv Oblast. CEO Hennadii Verbylenko said none of the warehouse employees were injured because they had taken shelter in advance. The company later donated UAH 2 million to the Sternenko Community Foundation and UAH 2.5 million to the Serhiy Prytula Charity Foundation Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
Simultaneously, a distribution centre of the Aurora multimarket chain in Kyiv Oblast was destroyed in the same morning attack. Co-founder Taras Panasenko reported no injuries, crediting the prompt response and safety protocols. This was the second attack on Aurora’s logistics in less than a week: on 22 August, Russia struck an Aurora centre in Poltava Oblast, destroying it and damaging State Emergency Service vehicles during a repeat strike Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
The onslaught continued into the night of 27–28 August. A Russian drone struck a Nova Poshta depot in Sviatopetrivske, part of the Bilohorodka hromada in Kyiv Oblast, damaging a nearby production facility. Approximately an hour later, as firefighters were tackling the blaze, two more strikes hit the same location. Firefighters managed to move to safety in time. Bilohorodka Mayor Anton Ovsiienko reported that casualties were being confirmed Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
By the morning of 28 August, the toll became clearer. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the Kyiv Oblast Military Administration, confirmed that one person was killed in the Bucha district and two others were injured — a man with shrapnel wounds in the same district, and a woman with cuts to her hand in the Fastiv district. Civilian infrastructure was damaged across five districts: Fastiv, Boryspil, Vyshhorod, Brovary and Bucha. Early reports counted 14 warehouses, 16 houses, three apartment buildings and 16 vehicles damaged Source: Ukrainska Pravda.
The pattern of targeting logistics hubs — including a previous strike on a Roshen warehouse in Boryspil district and a children’s toy distribution centre — suggests a deliberate Russian strategy to disrupt Ukraine’s supply chains and civilian economy. The repeated strikes on the same facilities, such as the double-tap on the Nova Poshta depot and the second attack on Aurora’s Poltava centre, indicate a tactic aimed at killing first responders and maximising destruction.
As of 28 August, Ukrainian air defence continued to engage drones across the region, but the scale of the attacks has stretched resources. The attacks underscore the vulnerability of Ukraine’s logistical backbone, even as the country’s companies vow to maintain operations.
