Russian strikes have severely damaged or destroyed three major retail warehouses in and around Kyiv over the past three days, disrupting supply chains for home improvement, groceries and supermarket goods across the capital region.

On the morning of 29 August, a direct hit struck an AGROMAT home improvement warehouse in Kyiv Oblast. The company reported that all staff survived and no one was injured, but the facility suffered significant structural damage. AGROMAT said it is assessing the destruction and reorganising operations, warning that some orders may be delayed. The chain's stores and online shop remain open. The next night, on 30–31 August, the Varus supermarket chain said its warehouse in Kyiv Oblast was attacked again. “Most importantly, everyone is alive and none of our employees was injured,” the company stated. Varus reported that a large quantity of goods was damaged or destroyed, leading to expected delays in deliveries and temporary shortages on shelves. Despite this, all shops remain open. The company expressed sympathy for partners whose goods were stored at adjacent warehouse sites and were also damaged. Source: Ukrainska Pravda

On the morning of 31 August, a Ukrainian government source confirmed that a fire broke out at warehouse premises in Kyiv’s Desnianskyi district shortly after an air-raid warning for UAVs. The Kyiv City Military Administration stated, “A fire broke out at warehouse premises in the Desnianskyi district.” Local Telegram channels reported that early indications pointed to the fire at warehouses belonging to the ATB supermarket chain. Strategic context

These three attacks appear to be part of a deliberate Russian campaign to degrade Ukraine’s civilian retail infrastructure, specifically targeting warehouses that are critical nodes in the supply chain for food, construction materials and household goods. While no staff casualties have been reported in any of the incidents, the cumulative effect on stock availability and delivery schedules could be significant for residents of Kyiv and the surrounding region.

The strikes came during a period of heightened Russian aerial attacks. On the night of 30–31 August, the Ukrainian Air Force reported that Russia launched one Kh-59 air-to-surface missile and 121 Shahed (mostly jet-powered) and Gerbera attack drones, along with Parodiya decoy UAVs. What is not yet known

A full damage assessment for each facility is still pending. AGROMAT is still quantifying the destruction, and the extent of the fire at the Desnianskyi district warehouses has not been officially confirmed. It remains unclear whether the three incidents were coordinated as a single operation targeting retail logistics, or were separate opportunistic strikes. The specific Russian weapons used in each attack have not been independently identified.

For now, the three retail chains say they are working to restore normal operations as quickly as possible, but warn that customers should expect delays and shortages in the coming days.
